Salt Lake City Midwives

July 20, 2014

Salt Lake City MidwifeIn the market for a Salt Lake City midwife? The other day I discussed Salt Lake area birth centers. Today, I thought I’d share my list of Salt Lake City midwives. I am constantly updating this list, so if you notice one that’s missing, please leave a comment and let me know. I’d love to make this list as accurate as possible. For some help understanding the different types of midwives–Certified Professional Midwife, Certified Nurse-Midwife, Direct-Entry Midwife, and Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife–I’ve written a post with definitions and explanations to help you make sense of it all. These labels are just the beginning when it comes to finding the right midwife for you. You’ll want to consider experience, safety record, birthing philosophy, and personality–all of these combine to make a unique midwife and you’re bound to find one that just feels right to you.

Hi please include me in your list of midwives. I fall under none of the above categories. I am not lay, because I completed a midwifery school program and apprenticeship 33 years ago. I have chosen to not license, or become a CPM, as those credentials would not make a difference in the quality of my care or change my conservative protocols. I do have 35 years of excellent experience.

Hi, You have listed Birthing Your Way in the birth centers but have not listed the midwives who work there. Heather Shelley is a CPM, Karla Bennett is a CNM, and Teresa Blair is a CNM. Thanks

Hi, Teresa! Thanks for stopping by. I actually didn’t list Birthing Your Way on my list of birth centers because I was focusing both the birth center list and the midwife list on the Salt Lake area where I work. But if I do a similar set for Utah County, I’ll definitely add your practice. I used to drive by your lovely birth center all the time when I lived in Pleasant Grove 🙂
